Fees, insurance
& the fee guide.

Dental insurance can be confusing. Here is how fees work in Alberta and how we help you get the most from your plan.

The 2026 Alberta dental fee guide

The Alberta Dental Association publishes a suggested fee guide every year. The 2026 guide for general dentists runs January 1 to December 31, 2026. The fees are suggestions. Each dentist sets their own fees.

Questions to ask about your plan

Calendar or policy year?

This is when your yearly maximum resets, which can affect when to plan bigger work like crowns.

What is the maximum?

Many plans cap what they pay each year, sometimes separately for basic and major services.

Orthodontic coverage?

Some plans cover children 6 to 18 but not adults. We can send a clear aligner plan to your insurer.

Secondary insurance

Coverage can come from a spouse, a parent, a second job or a student plan. For children covered by both parents, the parent with the earlier birthday in the year is usually primary.

No insurance?

You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

We do the legwork

We contact your insurer before your first visit to get a full breakdown, and we are happy to answer questions whether you are a patient or just thinking about it.

Fee guide questions

Do dentists have to charge the fee guide amount?

How does insurance use the fee guide?

Many insurance plans reimburse based on the Alberta fee guide, but every plan is different. We contact your insurer before your first visit and can send a treatment estimate for larger work. Fee guide amounts are only a guide and our actual fees may vary.

How is CDCP different from the fee guide?

CDCP pays its own set fees, published each year by Sun Life. They are often lower than the Alberta fee guide. For example, for a complete adult exam the 2026 guide suggests $143.85 and the CDCP eligible amount is $116.66. These figures are only a guide. Our actual fees may vary, so ask us for a quote before your visit.

Can I get a cost estimate before treatment?

Yes. Ask us for a written estimate any time, and we can send a predetermination to your insurance. Any fees you see on our website are only a guide and our actual fees may vary.
