How Much Does It Cost to Straighten Crooked Teeth in Edmonton?

If your teeth feel crowded, crooked, or just not quite how you want them, a common first question is: how much does it cost to straighten them in Edmonton?

There is no single number that fits every smile. Cost depends on how much movement you need, which option suits you, and who plans your care. This guide covers what drives the fee, how options compare, and what SureSmile clear aligner treatment includes at West Block Dental in Glenora.

Important: Prices on this page are a guide only. Your final fee is confirmed after an exam and written quote. Results vary from person to person. Treatment is not guaranteed to produce a specific outcome.

What affects the cost to straighten teeth

Before you compare quotes, it helps to know what offices are pricing.

    • How much your teeth need to move. Mild crowding or a small gap is usually a shorter plan than a complex bite problem.
    • Your bite and jaw. Deep bites, underbites, open bites, or jaw concerns can change the plan, the length of treatment, and sometimes who should treat you.
    • The appliance. Traditional braces, clear aligners, limited movement with retainers, or a referral to an orthodontist are different tools with different fee structures.
    • What is included. Consults, records, scans, check visits, refinements, and retainers are often the difference between a low sounding number and the real total.
    • Who treats you. A general dentist and an orthodontist (a specialist in tooth and jaw movement) may both offer straightening. Training and case mix differ, so fees and plans can too.

Online price ranges for braces or aligners across Edmonton can swing widely, and many ads leave out what is included. Rather than quote city averages we cannot verify here, we focus on what you should ask any office, and on the full fee we publish for SureSmile at our clinic.

    Options compared in plain language

    Traditional braces

Braces use brackets and wires fixed to the teeth. They stay on until the plan is done, so you do not rely on remembering to wear trays. They can handle a wide range of cases, including more complex ones. Cleaning takes extra care around the brackets, and hard or sticky foods are usually limited. Cost depends on case length and complexity, and on whether a general dentist or an orthodontist provides care.

    Clear aligners

Clear aligners are custom plastic trays you wear most of the day and night, then swap on a schedule. People often search for well known brand names when they mean any clear aligner system. Aligners are removable for eating and brushing, which many adults like. They suit many mild to moderate crowding and spacing cases, and some bite issues. They only work if you wear them as directed. Not every case is a good fit for aligners alone.

    Retainers and limited treatment

Sometimes a small relapse after past braces, or a very limited goal, can be managed with retainers or a short plan. That is not full straightening. An exam is the only way to know if a limited approach is realistic.

SureSmile clear aligners at West Block Dental

At West Block Dental we offer SureSmile clear aligners as one option for people who want to straighten crooked or crowded teeth without fixed braces. Care is provided by Dr. Katherina Nguyen, DDS (University of Alberta), known to many patients as Dr. Kat. She is a general dentist, not an orthodontist. For straightforward crowding and spacing she can often help. If your teeth or bite need specialist care, she will say so and refer you.

We are not an Invisalign provider. SureSmile is another clear aligner system planned from a digital scan and checked by your dentist over time. We will not claim one brand is better. We will tell you honestly whether aligners suit your mouth.

    What $6,150 CAD includes

Full SureSmile treatment at West Block Dental is $6,150 CAD. As a guide, that fee includes:

    • A free consult, exam, and digital scan
    • Your custom treatment plan
    • Your full series of SureSmile aligners
    • Progress check visits during treatment
    • Your first set of retainers
    • Refinements or extra trays at no extra cost for 3 years

Payment plans are offered. Replacement retainers after the first set may be an extra cost, so ask us about that at your consult.

Please note: Any price on our website is only a guide. Final cost is confirmed after your consult if your case needs something different. We always give you a written quote before you start. Individual results vary. We do not guarantee a specific smile outcome.

Is tooth straightening covered by insurance or CDCP?

Private dental insurance sometimes covers part of orthodontic treatment. Rules differ a lot. Some plans only help for children or teens. Some cover adults. Some have lifetime maximums. If you have a plan, we can send a treatment estimate to your insurer before you decide.

Canada’s Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is different from private insurance. Orthodontic coverage through a general dentist under CDCP is unlikely for this kind of clear aligner care, and we do not promise CDCP will pay for it. If you are unsure how CDCP applies to you, ask us and check your own eligibility details.

FAQs about the cost to straighten teeth in Edmonton

How much do clear aligners cost at West Block Dental?

Full SureSmile clear aligner treatment is $6,150 CAD as a published guide. That includes the free consult and scan, aligners, progress checks, first retainers, and refinements or extra trays for 3 years at no extra cost. Your written quote after the exam is what counts.

Do I need an orthodontist to straighten my teeth?

Not always. Many mild to moderate crowding or spacing cases can be treated by a general dentist. Dr. Kat is a general dentist, not an orthodontic specialist. Complex bites or jaw issues often belong with an orthodontist, and she will refer when that is the safer path.

Are clear aligners cheaper than braces?

It depends on the case and the office. Aligners and braces are priced for the work involved, not by a single city rate. Compare what is included (records, visits, refinements, retainers) rather than the headline number alone.

    Does CDCP cover clear aligners?

Do not count on CDCP orthodontic coverage through a general dentist for SureSmile at our office. We will not promise CDCP payment. Private insurance may still help for some patients.

How long does SureSmile treatment take?

It depends on how much your teeth need to move and how consistently you wear the trays. Dr. Kat will give you a time estimate at your consult after she sees your scan and bite.

Will my teeth stay straight after treatment?

Teeth can drift over time. That is why retainers matter. Your first set is included in the $6,150 fee. Wear them as directed. We cannot guarantee teeth will never move again if retainers are not worn.
