- Canadian resident for tax purposes
- Filed last year's tax return
- Adjusted family net income under $90,000
- No access to private or employer dental insurance
Government dental coverage through a social program (for example AISH in Alberta) does not usually block CDCP. If that is your only dental coverage, you should still apply: CDCP often covers more and pays more than provincial plans alone, and we can coordinate the two so there is often less left for you to pay.

What CDCP covers
Preventive
Exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride and sealants.
Restorative
Fillings, root canals, gum care and extractions. Crowns need approval first.
Dentures
Complete dentures, repairs and relines. Partial dentures need approval first.
Cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers are not CDCP benefits.
How billing works at West Block
We check your eligibility before your appointment and send the claim straight to Sun Life. You never pay the full amount and claim it back. Alberta low-income programs
If you only have a provincial plan like AISH or Income Support, you should still apply for CDCP. It often covers more and pays more than provincial plans alone. Since April 1, 2026, CDCP is billed first for people who have both, and Alberta may top up the rest. We handle the billing order for you.

Who qualifies for CDCP?
Canadian residents for tax purposes who filed last year's tax return, have an adjusted family net income under $90,000, and have no private or employer dental insurance. Coverage through a government social program (for example AISH in Alberta) does not usually stop you from qualifying; the plans can work together. If you only have a provincial plan, it is still worth applying for CDCP: it often covers more and pays more than provincial plans alone, and we can coordinate benefits so there is often less left for you to pay. How do I apply for CDCP?
Apply through My Service Canada Account on canada.ca or call Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342. Applying is free. CDCP will never ask you to pay to apply.
What does CDCP cover?
Exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride, sealants, fillings, root canals, gum care, extractions and complete dentures. Crowns, partial dentures and some other services need approval from CDCP first.
Will I have a co-pay?
It depends on your adjusted family net income. Under $70,000 there is no co-pay. From $70,000 to $79,999 you pay 40%. From $80,000 to $89,999 you pay 60%. If our fee is higher than the CDCP fee, we tell you the difference before treatment. These amounts are only a guide and our actual fees may vary, so ask us for a quote before your visit.
I have Alberta AISH or Income Support dental coverage too. What happens?
Yes: apply for CDCP even if you already have AISH or another Alberta low-income dental program.
